#WEEK 7/ Translator/ "Exploring Tasks with Digitals Computational Thinking and Coding."

"Hello! It's Pilar and this week I am in charge of the translator´s role. I am going to explain to you which main five key words we have worked on performing this task."

Let me explain to you the meaning of the concepts!

-Coding: it is an action that involves using a specific language such as programming in order to create codes that in turn help develop activities.

-Computational thinking: it's thinking and reasoning in a way that gets you to solve unknowns and problems through computing (using or operating with the computer).

-Problem solving skills: it is a skill that is reached when you get the ability of solving different kinds of problems. You need to be able to identify the problem, specify the causes of it and then try to find the best solution for solving it.

-Artificial Intelligence: it is the intelligence that machines exert when configured to do so through computing. Inserting several codes to those machines they are able to do a lot of things such as identifying objects and classifying them.

-Game based learning: it is an approach in which learning is done through the game, therefore it is a dynamic and interactive learning where playing is the key for learning.

THOSE WERE ALL THE FIVE CORE CONCEPTS!

SPACE FOR OTHER MATTERS.

Regarding the task, we agreed on dividing the activities into pairs, we had three pairs of 2 people composed by Charlotte and Cristina, Bea and Ángela, Eda and Pilar. Nevertheless, before dividing parts of the task we all agreed on which activities to work on. Together we chose an activity in which there was no need of internet connection or poor internet connection, another in which the use of the computer was unnecessary and a third one that had no requirements. We worked in pairs and I think all of us did a good job as when the time came to record the podcast all together we had our part developed and our scripts done about what to say in the podcast. Then we joined and did together the reflection as well as the recording.

At first we found as a weakness the fact of having to code in order to complete an activity as we didn´t know how to do it, nevertheless with practice and some effort we realized that it wasn't as hard as we thought. But we found it difficult to explain to primary school children to do these activities without a tutorial. In our opinion the help of the teacher is required.

We have used several tools in order to realize the activity such as zoom for our meetings, ivoox for uploading the podcast, camtasia for recording it. In addition we used commonsense as well and the rubric uploaded by the teacher to evaluate that the application of the game was safe for the children.

The decisions we took as a group in order to complete those activities easier was to check if the application of each game was safe as well as if the game was instructive at the same time as interactive.

From my point of view it has been a nice activity and we have learned different ways of teaching, and more concretely how is the approach of the game-based learning. In addition, we have learned basic concepts of coding on how computational thinking works as well as what is the problem solving skill and what is artificial intelligence and how it works.
